Children's Books
The Manford stories are entertaining, inspiring, humorous, and often educational.
The Circle is Drawn contains 18 stories told in 306 pages and 78,000 words. The tales begin in early spring and continue to late summer.
Riches for the Finding has another 18 stories told in 337 pages and 81,000 words. It picks up from the first book, continues through fall and winter and back to spring.
Seven friends – Manford the moose, Veronica the bear, Golly the golden eagle, Needlenose the porcupine, Flossie the pink flamingo, Princess Columbine the monarch butterfly, and Ssam the garter snake – go adventuring in the mountains, forests, rivers, and even the big city exploring the world and discovering its secrets. They work, play, and learn together, winning the day by solving puzzles and problems they encounter.
The characters portray strong personal values, showing how friendship, persistence, self-reliance, and teamwork lead to success. No ghastly monsters relentlessly pursue or try to kill them. They aren’t cruel to each other, don’t play senseless jokes on each other, or bicker or fight among themselves. Failure and disappointment are not the normal outcome of whatever they try to do. Instead, the emphasis is on values, learning, success, and upbeat, positive storytelling.
Both collections of stories are random, independent adventures for the most part and appear in a completely different order than they were written.
